The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, says his 650,000 barrels per day refinery is built without any incentive from the government.
Dangote said this at the ongoing Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria Summit holding in Lagos.
Represented by Engr Mansur Ahmed, the Executive Director of the Dangote Group, the richest man in Africa said the Dangote Refinery has been producing enough diesel and jet fuel for Nigeria’s needs.
The $20 billion refinery began operations on January 12, 2024, with a refining capacity of 300,000 barrels, and that rose to 400,000 barrels by the end of September 2024.
The refinery started selling its petrol on September 15, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited is the sole off-taker.
Dangote said though Nigeria is the largest crude oil producer in Africa, it has over the years been reliant on importation to meet demands for refined petroleum products.
As Dangote Petrol went offstream, NNPCL announced a new pump price of fuel at between N950 and N1,100 per liter at its filling stations nationwide.
In September 2024, Dangote urged the Nigerian government to totally eradicate all fuel subsidies.
