Inflation: CBN Announces Date For 297th MPC Meeting

The Central Bank of Nigeria has fixed September 23 and 24, 2024, for its 297th Monetary Policy Committee meeting.

The two-day meeting, which is expected to hold at the headquarters of the apex bank in Abuja, would announce key monetary policy decisions, including taming of inflation, currently standing at 32.15 per cent in August.

In a statement released by the apex bank on Wednesday, it explained that the meeting would deliberate on “consideration of the overall state of the economy, financial markets and taking appropriate monetary policy decisions in the short to medium term.”.

“This is to bring to your notice that the 297th meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee shall hold as follows: Day 1: Monday, September 23, 2024 Time: 10:00 a.m. Day 2: Tuesday, September 24, 2024 Time: 8:00 a.m.

This is against the background of the National Bureau of Statistics stating that inflation in Nigeria slowed for the second month running in August.

The CBN had adopted a tighter monetary policy in the past. In July this year, the apex bank increased the interest rate to 26.75%.

Despite the efforts, inflationary pressures continued to gripe the country as Nigerians complained of rising prices of products and services.
