As planned by the Federal Government, an attempt to tap into the seven trillion dollars of the developing global Halal market products and services.
Mr Aliyu Sheriff, Special Assistant to the President on Export Expansion, Office of the Vice President, in a statement by the Vice President’s Spokesperson, Mr Stanley Nkwocha, on Monday in Abuja, stated so.
According to him, the aim will be realised when the Federal Government inaugurates an all-inclusive programme on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, towards placing the nation among the leading countries in Halal business.
He said this project formed part of a broader initiative at diversifying the economy through the Halal market, adding that it covered Islamic permissibility but also represented ethics, integrity and universal values.
He believes the values apply universally.
Sheriff said the project would bring together government agencies, commercial sector leaders, and international partners to capitalize on Nigeria’s position as the world’s eighth-largest domestic Halal industry.
“The Halal economy represents an incredible opportunity for Nigeria to diversify its economy, produce foreign cash, and achieve long-term prosperity.
“By ramping up our Halal exports and focussing on strategic import substitution, we project the addition of close to 1.5 billion dollars to our GDP by 2027,” Sheriff said.
