The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that it has successfully enrolled 120,000,040 citizens and legal residents for the National Identity Number (NIN).
The commission also provided insights into the recent review of its service price framework, which has raised some charges while reducing others.
Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Director General of NIMC, addressed the media during a press conference on Wednesday, explaining the rationale behind the price adjustments.
Coker-Odusote stated that NIMC has made significant strides in enhancing its infrastructure over the past 24 months, enabling the commission to serve Nigerians more efficiently.
She also highlighted the commission’s efforts to tackle corruption, revealing that NIMC has successfully reduced corruption within the agency by 40 percent.
Regarding the price review, the NIMC Director General explained that while some charges for data modification have been increased, the fees for verifications have been reduced. She noted, “There were some prices that were too much, so what we did was to remove them.”
She went on to say, “There were all sorts of prices over there. People were extorting citizens with outrageous prices. NIN enrolment is free. But if you want to modify your data for any reason, you have to pay more. Some prices were reviewed downwards and others upwards.”
Regarding the specific changes, Coker-Odusote explained, “In terms of verification, the prices were reviewed downwards but upwards in terms of modifications.”
The NIMC’s price review, which took effect on May 1, 2025, saw an increase in the fee for date of birth corrections to N28,574 from the previous N16,340. Additionally, the fee for NIN retrieval services via Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) was raised to N50 from N20.
