‘NNPC Supplies 60 Per Cent Of Our Crude’ – Dangote Refinery

Aliyu Suleiman, Group Chief Strategy Officer, Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Company, stated on Wednesday that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, supplied 60% of the crude to the refinery, which appears to be a significant shift from the company’s previous claims.

Aliyu made the submission during an interactive session hosted by the Senate Ad-hoc Committee to investigate alleged sabotage in Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

This overrides the viewpoint of Rabiu A. Umar, Group Chief Commercial Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, who claimed that the NNPC has been supplying insufficient crude oil to meet the company’s production demands.

Umar stated that NNPC only supplies 33% of crude to the refinery, and that it had to search elsewhere for the remaining 67% to satisfy output capacity.

He also stated that the refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, could not rely on a short supply from Nigeria’s oil business.

However, during his presentation, Aliyu Suleiman revealed that of the five million barrels of crude oil they had received, “NNPC gave them 60%, 20% was imported, and 20% was purchased.”

Aliyu thanked the Dangote Refinery and NNPC Ltd for their solid relationship and for supplying Dangote with such a large volume.

He referred to the refinery as a newborn that needs be supported by all essential parties “in order to grow and not die”.
