Professor Daniel Nwachukwu, the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI) in Ebonyi State, has called on the student body to come forward with reports of sexual harassment, financial exploitation, or any other forms of malpractice to the school’s management for immediate intervention.
The Vice-Chancellor gave his word that the school would keep the names of whistleblowers private while taking firm disciplinary measures against anyone found guilty of wrongdoing.
He emphasized that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding cult activity, cheating during exams, inappropriate attire, trading grades for sexual favors, illegal fees, and various other moral or professional lapses.
These warnings were delivered during the university’s 14th Matriculation Ceremony, held at the Ndufu-Alike campus in the Ikwo Local Government Area to welcome the 2025/2026 academic intake.
In his view, such negative behaviors damage the school’s foundational principles of merit and honesty, and any violations will be met with penalties outlined in the student handbook and official university codes.
“Please report any of these offences to the appropriate university authorities, including the Chief Security Officer (CSO), Dean of Students’ Affairs, Director of SERVICOM and other relevant officials. We assure you of prompt action and protection of your identity,” he remarked.
Professor Nwachukwu revealed that 5,227 individuals were admitted for the current 2025/2026 session, encouraging the newcomers to keep their eyes on their educational objectives.
“Today marks another milestone in our university’s growth as we welcome 5,227 freshmen into our vibrant academic community. On behalf of the university management, I warmly welcome you and appreciate your families and friends who supported you to reach this stage,” he noted.
The administrator portrayed AE-FUNAI as one of the most rapidly advancing public institutions in the country, highlighting its increasing prestige both at home and abroad.
He shared his ambition to mold the university into a premier hub for intellectual and academic achievement within Nigeria, across Africa, and on the world stage.
“Our goal is to create and sustain conditions that will make AE-FUNAI globally competitive and research-driven, while providing students with an exceptional educational experience that will equip them with knowledge and skills beneficial to Nigeria and humanity,” he mentioned.
Nwachukwu urged the freshmen to stay disciplined, keep up with their classes, turn in their work on time, and build a productive rapport with their professors.
He further suggested they shouldn’t be shy about asking for help from the right channels, pointing out that feedback boxes located throughout the grounds are there for students to voice their grievances or ideas.
Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor announced that the institution intends to weave Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the curriculum to ensure students can navigate a fast-changing global landscape.
He noted that this roadmap had been shared with the university senate during his first official address to them on March 3, 2026.
“As students, you are not just here to earn degrees; you are here to become leaders, innovators and agents of change. Use your time here to explore opportunities, develop your talents and make meaningful contributions to society,” he concluded
