The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed claims by an online platform alleging that the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is no longer required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
In a statement issued by JAMB’s Director of Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board described the report as “malicious and preposterous,” clarifying that the Minister of Education, Dr. Mauruf Alausa, never made such a declaration.
Dr. Benjamin emphasized that the public should disregard the false information, affirming that JAMB remains committed to carrying out its statutory responsibilities as mandated by law.
The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to fallacious information published by Phonix.browser.com on 16th October, 2025, claiming that ‘JAMB is no longer a prerequisite for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.’
“We wish to categorically state that the information is malicious and preposterous, as Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Mauruf Alausa, has at no point made such a pronouncement.
“The misquoted statement, titled ‘Renewed Hope in Action: Federal Government Streamlines Admission Requirements to Expand Access to Tertiary Education,’ was merely part of the federal government’s effort to enhance access to higher education in Nigeria.”
JAMB, therefore, urged Nigerians to disregard the false report and reiterated that the board will continue to perform its admission and examination duties in accordance with its enabling laws.
