JAMB Raises Alarm Over Fake Messages to UTME Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has raised concerns over the spread of fake, misleading, and criminal messages targeting candidates registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin warned that the deceptive messages are being circulated by suspected fraudsters aiming to scam unsuspecting individuals.

He explained that these scammers are exploiting the numerical variant of UTME, “8863,” by combining it with JAMB’s sort code, “55019,” to craft a fraudulent sort code that appears to come from the Board’s official messaging platform.

Benjamin stated, “Through this fraudulent scheme, they have been sending misleading messages to candidates, falsely claiming to detect manipulations in their JAMB details and urging them to contact certain individuals who will assist in resolving these fabricated issues.”

He clarified that such messages are not from JAMB and noted that security agencies have been informed and are actively working to track those responsible.

“Candidates are strongly advised to ignore such messages. This is a common tactic employed by fraudsters who seek to exploit the examination period to deceive and defraud innocent candidates,” he added.

JAMB urged the public to stay vigilant and scrutinize any messages they receive, stressing that any communication not sent through its official channels or containing suspicious language should be considered fraudulent.
