Kwara Poly Unbundles Two Departments and Appoints New Heads

The management of Kwara State Polytechnic has announced the unbundling of Higher National Diploma Mass Communication and Computer Science-two popular programmes that were formerly given as a combined course in Polytechnics and Monotechnics globally.

This decision was in the attempt to effect the recent order by the National Board for Technical Education for the improvement of quality and relevance, and as such, it takes immediate effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.

Speaking on the new development, the Rector of the Institution, Abdul Jimoh Mohammed explained that the motivation was to embark on the provision of service that would respond to the demands of the global information, communication, and technology business while at the same time turning out diplomats who have knowledge and skills in identified areas of national need.

He explained that unbundling will allow students to delve deeper into any chosen profession and build that particular capability which the companies desire.

Abdul explained that with the development of technology, the HND Mass Communication and Computer Science curricula were no longer tenable.
In a related development, the Rector has approved the nomination of new leaders for the new programmes that would be created from Mass Communication and Computer Science.

Yissa Idris Olohuntoyin is Head of Journalism and Media Studies, while Opaleke Enoch Abimbola takes charge of Strategic Communication and Media Studies; Dr Dada O. M. is to take charge of Networking and Cloud Computing while Olajide Anthony Taiwo will be in charge of Software and Web Development.

Meanwhile, Fatiu Olohungbebe and Oluwafemi Oyedepo maintained the headship of Mass Communication and Computer Science departments respectively at the ND level while the two departments’ final HND 2.

The Rector assured the new departments that necessary resources and support would be availed to ensure that the new programmes took off properly.
