The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has extended the mandatory service year of 11 corps members in Katsina State due to various disciplinary infractions.
This development was announced on Thursday during the passing-out parade of the 2024 Batch “A” Stream II corps members by the NYSC State Coordinator, Ibrahim Sa’idu. He was represented at the event by the Assistant Director of Human Resource Management, Allen Charles Chisome.
Sa’idu noted that the decision was made in accordance with the “NYSC by-laws”, emphasizing that the organization remains committed to upholding discipline and integrity within the scheme. Of those affected, three were female and eight were male.
In contrast, a total of 859 corps members successfully completed their national service without any issues. Sa’idu commended their dedication and urged them to continue being “good ambassadors of the scheme.”
He also encouraged the outgoing corps members to apply the knowledge gained through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program to become self-reliant and create opportunities for themselves and others.
Appreciation was extended to the Katsina State Government for its ongoing support, especially in the areas of hospitality and security, which ensured a safe and smooth service year for corps members.
During the ceremony, which was held in a modest setting, three corps members — Adanu Theresa Onyeche (KT/24A/1937), Sunday Bose Aladi (KT/24A/2125), and Abdul Fatai Usman Isyaka (KT/24A/2860) — received state awards for their outstanding performance and contributions.
The event also featured a solemn moment as a minute of silence was observed in honor of a corps member who passed away during the service year.
