UNIPORT Promotes 30 Professors, 16 Associate Professors

The University of Port Harcourt has announced the promotion of 30 senior academic staff to the rank of professor and an additional 16 staff members to the position of associate professor.

This information was confirmed by the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, through a statement released in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Georgewill explained that the newly promoted academics underwent a comprehensive evaluation process established by the university.

“The promotions were approved during the 187th meeting of the Governing Council, chaired by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa,” Georgewill said.

“A total of 30 staff members were elevated to the rank of professor, while 16 others were promoted to associate professor,” he added.

The Faculty of Science produced the highest number of new professors with seven appointments, followed by the Faculties of Social Sciences and Management Sciences, each with five.

The College of Health Sciences also promoted five professors, while the Faculty of Humanities added four, Engineering three, and Pharmaceuticals one.

For associate professors, the Faculty of Engineering led with four promotions, followed by Science with three, and Education and Humanities each with two. Agriculture, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, College of Health Sciences, and the School of Science Laboratory Technology each recorded one associate professor appointment.
