Ayra Starr Discusses Growth in New Album

Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has shared that her upcoming studio album serves as a mirror to her individual and creative evolution as she enters a fresh chapter of her life.

The 23-year-old vocalist opened up during a guest spot on Apple Music Radio Takeover, discussing how she is maturing artistically and experimenting with new textures in her songs.

She noted that the new body of work documents her transition into womanhood, marked by a distinct change in her sonic direction and how she expresses herself.

“I’m literally becoming a woman, and you can hear that in my music now. I’m growing sonically and I want to try different things, just put myself out there and have fun while doing it,” she remarked.

Ayra Starr confessed that there was a period where she became perhaps too intense about her work, but she has since found her way back to the lighthearted spirit of creating.“I kind of lost the plot a bit and took it too seriously.

It was never that deep,” she noted. The singer clarified that this third album is all about tapping back into the sense of play and liberty that first sparked her musical path.“I brought the fun back, and we’re enjoying ourselves,” she said.

While the official name of the project remains under wraps, Ayra Starr has already dropped the lead track, “Where Do We Go,” in anticipation of the full album arriving later this year.
