Ayra Starr on Her Rise to Fame and Musical Evolution

Afrobeats sensation Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, known widely as Ayra Starr, has confidently spoken about her rise to fame at a young age.

The artist reflected on her journey since her breakout with the self-titled debut EP and her first full album, ’19 & Dangerous,’ released in 2021, noting how her music has continuously evolved.

Ayra Starr highlighted that she matured under the public eye.

In an appearance on Visa’s ‘Music Talks,’ she shared, “My debut single became a hit in Africa, and it was an overwhelming experience. I had the opportunity to grow up with everyone watching. It’s crucial to let artists evolve and discover themselves. I’m not sure if this is my final form, but I don’t believe in a definitive final form. I don’t think so.

“There are different eras and phases, and you just keep getting better. This is the current vibe with Ayra Starr; it might change next year. It could be better, it could be bigger.”

Regarding her international success, Starr stated, “People from various parts of the globe appreciate my music. My voice defines my sound, and I infuse Afrobeats into every genre I explore.”

She also revealed that during her first meeting with Don Jazzy, she recorded five tracks, three of which made it into her debut EP.

“I recorded five songs the first day I met Don Jazzy. Three of those ended up in my first EP,” she explained.
