Afrobeats musician and producer Maleek Berry has shared his encounter with Davido when both singers were up-and-coming.
While making an appearance on the ’90s Baby’ podcast, ‘Kontrol’ crooner Maleek Berry alleged that Davido would deceive people by acting poor despite his affluent background from the father, as they worked in the same studio.
He further said he was in shock when he paid a visit to the mansion belonging to his dad.
“I was there when Davido had only 4,000 YouTube views. “When he came to London, I would take him into a studio in Bermondsey and record him,” he said.
“One of his cousins hooked me and him up on social media. At the time, he was really unknown. We were just two Nigerian boys into music.
“He used to treat us like one of those underprivileged kids. But as I drove up to his father’s crib, me f**king surprised. There’s money!
“I was surprised because, at the time, my thinking didn’t work like he [Davido] had money. He used to mix in among us. When I saw the tower, I thought, “OK, they’re rich.”
Berry further explained how Davido was the one who introduced him to Wizkid years later.
