150 Feared Dead as Bandits’ Boat Sinks in Sokoto

Reports indicate that no fewer than 150 suspected bandits have lost their lives after a boat transporting them overturned in the Sabon Gida district of Sokoto State.

The news was brought to light by Zagazola Makama, a security analyst specializing in counter-insurgency within the Lake Chad region, through a post on X. He noted that the disaster took place on Saturday evening as the craft, which was packed with a significant number of armed individuals, capsized while attempting to cross a local waterway.

According to his account, the group was moving in high numbers when the vessel suddenly went under, dumping everyone on board into the depths.

“Preliminary information suggests that many of them could not swim, leading to heavy casualties,” he remarked.

He further noted that early intelligence from the scene suggests there were no survivors among those on the boat.

As of the publication of this report, there has been no formal statement or confirmation from official security agencies regarding the incident.
