Leadership within the Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Osun Amotekun, has verified a brutal raid on its Egbedore Local Government Command base located in Awo.
The security outfit reported that the strike resulted in multiple officers sustaining injuries and the theft of several service weapons.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the agency’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the chaos unfolded on Monday evening.
Osun Amotekun characterized the event as a planned mob strike against its building, which led to heavy destruction of the facility and various field gear.
As per the official account, “preliminary reports revealed the situation began at about 8:00 p.m. when a civilian reportedly fled to the Amotekun office seeking refuge after being chased by suspected hoodlums.
“The victim was said to have been involved in a disagreement linked to a football-related altercation the previous day, which allegedly escalated into a violent confrontation.”
The briefing noted that bystanders saw the mob, carrying blades and other lethal tools, hunting down and beating the man before he caught a break and reached the security station.
“Amotekun officers on duty reportedly intervened and offered protection to the victim, preventing further immediate harm.
“However, the assailants were said to have regrouped and returned in large numbers, launching a fresh and more intense attack on the command headquarters.
“During the assault, the mob vandalised the facility, injured personnel, breached security, and allegedly attacked the victim again while inside the premises.
“The attackers also reportedly carted away firearms belonging to the command before security operatives were able to repel them and restore order,” the statement added.
The organization confirmed that five individuals were apprehended on-site and have since been transferred to the police for further questioning.
Furthermore, the agency called on the public to stay composed and provide any leads that could help officials hunt down the remaining culprits.
