Authorities in Katsina State have reported that armed bandits claimed three lives and left 11 others wounded following a raid on Jikamashi town within the Musawa Local Government Area.
The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Aliyu Abubakar, verified the details of the assault in a formal update released this Wednesday.
He noted that the violence unfolded on March 10 around 6:05 pm, triggered after law enforcement in Musawa caught a frantic tip-off that a mob of suspected bandits carrying lethal arms had stormed Jikamashi village.
Abubakar pointed out that the gunmen had already harmed a number of locals by the time the tactical teams reached the village.
“They injured 14 persons before the arrival of security agencies,” he noted.
Upon getting the alert, a combined security force, under the direction of the Musawa Divisional Police Officer, scrambled to the location to take on the intruders.
The police representative explained that the security units traded fire with the bandits and ultimately managed to drive them back.
Those hurt during the chaotic encounter were quickly transported to a local medical facility for emergency care.
Sadly, medical staff later announced that three of the casualties had passed away from their injuries, though the other 11 survivors are still under observation and are showing signs of recovery.
Abubakar also mentioned that the State Police Commissioner, Bello Shehu, expressed his deep disgust and denounced the strike against the villagers.
Furthermore, he said the commissioner has launched a comprehensive probe into the event, vowing to make sure the culprits behind the violence are trailed and brought into custody.
