The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that a fire outbreak at Faringada Market destroyed 20 shops in Jos North Local Government Area.
The agency disclosed the development in a statement shared on its official X page.
According to the statement, the fire incident broke out at about 6:00 a.m., with vehicle spare parts shops within the market mostly affected.
NEMA also reported that four containers and two vehicles—a bus and a Toyota Corolla—were destroyed by the fire, though no casualties were recorded.
The agency said its Jos Operations Office worked alongside the Federal Fire Service to respond to the emergency.
It added that firefighters and emergency personnel successfully brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the market.
According to the statement, initial information gathered from traders and other stakeholders in the market showed that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be identified.
NEMA further noted that investigations are currently underway to determine what led to the outbreak.
The agency added that the incident caused significant economic losses for traders whose shops were affected, while efforts continue to uncover the cause of the fire.
