Officers from the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, commonly known as the Taskforce, have stepped up their crackdown on unauthorized commercial bike riders, seizing 70 motorcycles during a recent sweep along the Mile 2–Badagry Expressway.
An official update shared on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, confirmed that the team carried out a major clearing operation around the Iyana-Iba stretch. This action comes right on the heels of a similar exercise conducted last weekend, highlighting the state’s strategy to keep the heat on those flouting traffic and safety regulations.
The enforcement team targeted several high-traffic spots along the Lagos–Mile 2–Badagry route, specifically hitting Festac First Gate, Mazamaza, and Iyana-Iba.
In the heat of the mission, several riders were caught using forbidden paths and causing gridlock, while others were reportedly using their bikes to smuggle illegal narcotics and combustible materials like petrol across the border, creating significant risks on the main highways and side streets.
“During the exercise, some commercial motorcycle operators were found plying restricted routes, obstructing traffic flow. Some of the operators were using okada to transport illicit drugs, flammable substances like PMS to neighboring countries, and generally constituting a nuisance on major highways and adjoining roads,” the statement said.
By the time the team wrapped up, they had confiscated 70 bikes in total, bringing a sense of order back to the targeted neighborhoods.
“At the conclusion of the operations, a total of 70 commercial motorcycles were impounded, and sanity was restored across all affected areas,” the statement added.
The agency made it clear that every seized motorcycle will be handed over to the Lagos State Government via the court system, following the guidelines set out in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
The Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, doubled down on the department’s resolve to keep these operations going until everyone follows the rules.
“We will not be cowed or surrendered to their illegalities,” he stated.
