Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old man, Kazeem Awe, for allegedly killing a nursing mother in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Council Area.
Awe, the son of the victim’s landlord, allegedly attacked Motunrayo Adeleye with a cutlass following a dispute over unpaid rent at their residence in the Alaba axis of the community.
During the violent confrontation, the suspect also injured the deceased’s husband, Mathew Adeleye, and their daughter.
The incident reportedly occurred around 5:00 a.m. in the Ore Alaba area, near a popular school, throwing the normally peaceful neighbourhood into panic as residents fled for safety.
Sources revealed that the violence stemmed from an ongoing disagreement over house rent between the suspect and the deceased’s husband, who was a tenant in a building owned by Awe’s father.
Speaking from his hospital bed, the husband stated that the dispute began when tenants in the building were served quit notices, even though their rents were not yet due.
“I had informed friends to help us search for another apartment, and we eventually secured one. We were preparing to move out that same Thursday the incident occurred,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, said the victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Ore, where the deceased was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The spokesperson added that the other two victims are receiving treatment, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
