The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered firearms during an operation in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The command said the arrest followed a raid on a criminal hideout at Gidan Akuya village by operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), who acted on credible intelligence.
In a statement released on Sunday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
According to the statement, the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting the police team but were chased, leading to the arrest of a 43-year-old suspect identified as Jibril Yunusa.
Nansel explained that a search of the hideout resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine, and one locally fabricated rifle.
He added that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to participating in several kidnapping operations within the Keana and Awe axis of the state and has provided useful information to support ongoing investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed operatives to intensify efforts to track down other members of the gang who escaped during the raid.
He also commended the officers for their professionalism and reassured residents of the command’s commitment to combating criminal activities and protecting lives and property across the state.
