The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has successfully intercepted a group of 12 individuals suspected of being illegal immigrants within the state.
The operation, which relied heavily on a string of intelligence reports, reached a climax late Sunday night, February 22. Around 10 p.m., NSCDC personnel moved into the Akerebiata area of Ilorin, where they initially apprehended six men originally from Mali.
Following the sweep, the Command identified the suspects as Umar Sangari (25), Bubu Bill (43), Modibo Keita (26), Mahmud Jaalo (22), Bakare Sumonu (20), Saiku Dubia (28), Panda Aboubacar (32), Malle Siaka (24), Seku Barry (34), Lamine Bakou (27), Baye Bolly (24), and Zuman Traore (26).
According to a statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC 1 Ayoola Michael Shola, the officers didn’t just find the suspects; they also recovered a variety of personal items during the bust.
The haul included nine mobile phones, two international passports, several identification cards, a wristwatch, various keys, and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The arrests mark a significant step in the Command’s ongoing efforts to monitor and secure the state’s borders through active intelligence gathering.
