The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has arrested a 50-year-old scrap dealer over the alleged vandalism of electrical cables in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday and signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud.
According to the statement, the suspect was apprehended in Maruwa town within Kafin Hausa Local Government Area with aluminium cable measuring approximately 267 metres, estimated to be worth about N573,300.
Preliminary findings indicated that the cable was allegedly brought to the suspect’s home for safekeeping by two individuals identified as Sani and Auwalu, both said to be residents of Ruba village in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area. The two suspects are currently on the run.
The statement further noted that the arrested suspect is currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplices and ensure they face justice.
Reacting to the development, the State Commandant of the NSCDC in Jigawa warned individuals involved in the destruction or theft of critical national assets and infrastructure to desist from such illegal acts or risk facing the full force of the law.
The Commandant also urged members of the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities around public infrastructure to relevant security agencies across the state.
The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure, while also working to ensure the protection of lives and property across Jigawa State.
