NSCDC Nabs Four Over Phone Snatching in Kano

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the arrest of four young men suspected of assaulting residents and stealing mobile phones in Dorayi Babba, located in Gwale Local Government Area.

The command said the suspects were apprehended during a routine patrol after residents raised concerns about a group of hoodlums reportedly causing unrest in the neighborhood.

In a statement issued on Friday, the NSCDC explained that a vigilant resident informed officers at a nearby outpost about several youths carrying dangerous weapons who had gathered close to a community school.

The statement was signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, on behalf of the State Commandant.

According to him, the suspects were said to be targeting individuals performing Taraweeh prayers as well as passers-by, attacking them and taking away their belongings, including mobile phones.

The statement noted that NSCDC operatives quickly responded to the alert and moved to the location, where they dispersed the group.

During the operation, four suspects were taken into custody. They were identified as Yusuf Auwal, 18; Abubakar Abdullahi, 21; Huzaifa Ismail Aliyu, 27; and Yushau Abubakar, 17.

All four suspects are residents of Dorayi Babba in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

Officials said the suspects were arrested after they allegedly attacked a resident and seized his mobile phone.

The corps also reported that a sharp knife and two parcels of marijuana were recovered from the suspects at the time of their arrest.

Speaking on the development, the command said the suspects were engaged in activities capable of disrupting public peace.

“Operatives on routine patrol apprehended four suspects in connection with causing public disturbance, attacks, and phone snatching at Dorayi Babba in Gwale Local Government Area,” the statement said.

It added that the suspects were apprehended after attacking a victim and taking his mobile phone.

The NSCDC further confirmed that investigations into the matter have been completed.

“Investigation into the case has been concluded, and the four suspects will be charged in court,” the command said.

Security authorities also urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing useful information that can help combat crime and keep communities safe.
