Authorities in Bauchi State have detained two individuals participating in the Nigeria Police Force recruitment drive for reportedly presenting counterfeit National Examinations Council (NECO) results while undergoing vetting at the Bauchi Police Training School.
The state command’s representative, Nafiu Habib, shared the details of the arrests in an official update on Saturday.
Habib noted that the vetting process was under the direction of A.Y. Dickson, who headed the delegation responsible for the exercise at the training facility.
He mentioned that the screening involved a group of 403 hopefuls, consisting of 354 general duty aspirants and 49 candidates for specialized roles.
The official explained that the two men were caught with the doctored NECO certificates as their paperwork was being scrutinized.
The police spokesperson also pointed out the coincidence that both suspects go by the name Yusuf Usman and had remained side-by-side during the vetting phases until their credentials were identified as fraudulent.
Habib went on to say that the lead official directed that the pair be moved to the custody of the Divisional Police Officer at the ‘E’ Division for a deeper inquiry.
He cautioned future candidates against using any deceptive tactics during the force’s enlistment procedures.
