United States Embassy Oslo was struck by an explosion early Sunday, authorities confirmed, though no injuries were reported.
Oslo Police District said the blast occurred around 1:00 a.m. local time, causing damage to the entrance of the embassy’s consular section.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions following recent missile and drone attacks by Iran on U.S. interests and allied locations in the Gulf region, including strikes near Doha, as Tehran responds to military operations carried out by the United States and Israel.
Police incident commander Michael Dellemyr told NRK that officers received several reports of a loud explosion before arriving at the scene.
“At around 1:00 a.m., we received several reports of an explosion. We arrived shortly afterwards and confirmed that it had impacted the U.S. embassy,” Dellemyr said.
He described the damage as minor and noted that it was still too early to determine the exact cause of the blast.
“We are not commenting on the type of damage or what caused the explosion at this stage, as the investigation is ongoing,” he added.
Dellemyr later told TV2 Norway that investigators suspect the explosion may have been deliberate.
Police have begun interviewing witnesses, while bomb disposal teams were deployed to the site as part of ongoing security measures.
