Despite the fantastic breakthrough by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, through the introduction of Operation Udo Ga Achi and security organization Agunechemba, kidnappers appear to have returned to the state.
Even though suspected kidnappers have been apprehended by the security authorities, like many indigenous doctors who make charms for them—though others went into hiding—kidnappings did not abate.
The most recent kidnap was on Friday evening at about 9 p.m. along the Nsugbe-Nneyi Umuleri road in Anambra State.
In the process, one Dona Ayakalor was kidnapped with three of his friends and taken to the kidnappers’ camp, where the group is demanding ransom for their release.
A video of the experience went viral on social media, in which the abductors can be seen shooting one of the victims in the leg and breaking his ankle—quite possibly to clarify their motives and intimidate their family members into the payment of ransom.
The victim was heard wailing in pain and hugging another victim physically in the video, as a third victim wildly dialed a suspected relative for raising money to secure his freedom.
More shocking, though, is that the attack occurred in Anambra North Senatorial Zone, which, as far as everyone knows, is extremely peaceful in spite of the constant cases of attack by unidentified gunmen.
When our correspondent attempted to contact the state command police public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, for a response, he was offline.
Up to the time of this report, he has not responded to queries on the attack.
Anambra State’s newly appointed Police Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, recently clocked one month without a single case of kidnapping in the state, but unfortunately, it appears this feat has been breached.
