The Nigerian Army has announced the arrest of suspects involved in the murder of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, who was killed following his kidnapping in Tachira village, Kaura Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer for Operation Safe Haven, confirmed this in a statement, noting that troops from Sector 7 of the operation apprehended the suspects on March 25, 2025.
According to Major Zhakom, the arrests occurred during a targeted raid at a hideout in the Ruga settlement in Warsa-Piti village, Lere Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
During initial interrogations, the main suspect, identified as Pate Yau, aged 33, confessed that he had been contracted to kidnap the priest by Douglas Henry, who reportedly resided in the same compound as the late Reverend.
Following the confession, troops conducted another operation and successfully apprehended Douglas Henry at Agwan Sariki Tachira in Kaura Local Government Area.
Both suspects are now in custody and undergoing further investigation.
