Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has criticized the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term by All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and the National Assembly leadership, describing it as a sign of panic and desperation within the ruling party.
At the APC National Summit held in Abuja last Friday, the party’s Governors Forum and National Assembly leaders officially endorsed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid. Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared that Tinubu is the APC and Nigeria’s sole presidential candidate for the next election.
Reacting through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku emphasized that the endorsement that truly matters is that of Nigerians, not political manoeuvrings by the ruling party. Ibe urged the Tinubu administration to prioritize tackling Nigeria’s pressing issues rather than focusing on political endorsements.
“When you’ve prepared diligently for an exam, you can sleep soundly the night before, waking up assured of success. That’s the position of our coalition,” Ibe said.
He highlighted the nation’s ongoing challenges: “Insecurity is at an unprecedented level, with territories being reclaimed by insurgents in Borno State and other regions. The cost of living is unbearable. Families struggle to feed themselves, access healthcare, or send their children to school.”
Ibe concluded, “As school fees are due, many are weighed down by these burdens. Yet, the government has done little to address these challenges, choosing instead to focus on political games.”
