Ayatollah Alireza Arafi has been named a jurist member of Iran’s temporary Leadership Council.
The Leadership Council is tasked with performing the duties of the Supreme Leader until a successor is chosen by the Assembly of Experts.
The 67-year-old cleric, who also serves on the influential Guardian Council, was confirmed as part of the three-member council by the Expediency Council.
Arafi will join Masoud Pezeshkian, the President, and Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, the Chief Justice, on the interim council, which is legally empowered to oversee leadership duties during the transition.
