In a bid to curb examination malpractice, the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, has installed Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in strategic examination halls across the institution.
The Rector, Alhaji Sani Usman, made this known on Sunday during an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the 2025 resource inspection and accreditation exercise conducted by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
“We’ve deployed CCTV cameras in key classrooms, particularly those powered by solar inverters. This is part of a broader strategy to enhance exam integrity,” Usman stated.
He further disclosed that the institution is finalizing a research project funded by TETFund over the past two years, which aims to expand CCTV coverage beyond classrooms. The broader objective is to tackle both exam-related misconduct and broader security concerns within the campus.
Addressing the ongoing accreditation process, the Rector highlighted the significance of the NBTE visit, which serves to assess the institution’s development over the last five years and ensure its facilities, staffing, and academic resources align with national standards.
“The board is here to accredit 78 programmes. The exercise has been completed, and we now await their findings,” he noted.
Also speaking, Director of Polytechnic Programmes and Team Lead of the NBTE delegation, Dr. Fatima Umar, emphasized the need for the institution to address infrastructure and manpower gaps. Her remarks were delivered by Mr. Adesina Oluade, a board representative.
Umar pointed out specific challenges, including the lack of student handbooks, academic journals, and inconsistent power supply in certain departments.
She reassured the institution of a fair and transparent assessment, adding that the core aim of the accreditation exercise is to strengthen quality assurance across Nigerian polytechnics.
