In a recent interview with comedian Jimmy Fallon on NBC’s The Tonight Show, Gates discussed how AI could revolutionize everyday life and work.
Currently, Gates pointed out, genuine expertise remains “rare,” particularly in professions such as medicine and education. He emphasized the continued need for skilled professionals like “a great doctor” or “a great teacher,” whose specialized knowledge is not easily replaceable.
However, Gates predicts significant changes on the horizon. “With AI, over the next decade, that will become free, commonplace — great medical advice, great tutoring,” he explained.
He further elaborated on the concept of “free intelligence” during a discussion with Harvard University professor and happiness expert Arthur Brooks, emphasizing the transformative nature of this technological shift.
Gates noted that AI-powered innovations will become widely accessible, significantly impacting areas from healthcare, with improved medicine and diagnoses, to education, with readily available AI tutors and virtual assistants.
“It’s very profound and even a little bit scary — because it’s happening very quickly, and there is no upper bound,” Gates told Brooks.
