Canada PM Mark Carney Requests Parliament Dissolution

Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, announced on Sunday that he has requested the Governor General to dissolve Parliament.

Carney also wants to call a federal election on 28 April.

He made the announcement in a statement on his official X page.

It said: “I have just requested the Governor General to dissolve Parliament and call a federal election on 28 April.

We need to build the strongest economy in the G7. We need to manage President Trump’s tariffs.

“Canadians ought to have a choice about who should do that for our country.”

Carney became Liberal leader and prime minister after his predecessor, Justin Trudeau, resigned in January.

Trudeau resigned after a slump in the polls and a rebellion within his cabinet.
