Canada’s PM Mark Carney Accuses Trump of Trying to ‘Break’ the Country

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has blamed US President Donald Trump for wanting to “break” their country.

Carney triggered a federal election on Sunday in a widely anticipated move, traveling to Governor-General Mary Simon to request the dissolution of Parliament.

I’m asking for a clear, positive mandate from Canadians to handle President [Donald] Trump and to build a new Canadian economy that works for everyone because I know we need change,” Carney said, referring to the ongoing trade war with the United States.

The election will be held on 28 April, when Carney will contest his main rival, Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre.

We are facing the biggest crisis of our lifetime because of President Trump’s unjustified trade measures and his attack on our sovereignty,” Carney stated.

“Our response must be to build a stronger economy and a more secure Canada.”

He continued: “President Trump has said that Canada isn’t actually a country. He wishes to annihilate us so America can occupy us. We will not permit that.”.
