Commuters in Ogun State Face Steep Price Hikes Amid Fuel Scarcity

Commuters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have complained about motorists’ increased transportation costs as a result of the increase in petrol pump prices from N630 to N730 per litre.

They were dissatisfied with the fact that areas that were previously charged N500 are now charged N800, while others that were charged N700 now cost N1,000.

Blessing Ayomide, a student, stated, “From Saje intersection to OPIC at Oke Ilewo by bike was N500, but today I entered for N1,000. This is unfair.

“I had already budgeted my movement before leaving home but now everything is scattered.”

Favour, a POS operator, also expressed concern about the situation, saying, “This country is getting harder by the day; I spent N800 on a bike this morning on my way to my shop from inside Magbon to Iwe Iroyin; it is usually N500, but they said there is no fuel, so the price has gone up.”

According to our correspondent, while independent filling stations such as Lado Oil in Ijemo, Rab Dev Company LTD in Adigbe, and Armor have closed, MRS in Isale Igbein sells for N630 per litre, while Joke filling station in Kemta, KH Tetra, and Oyinkansola in Panseke sell for N730.

Our correspondent also claims that a big line was seen at NNPC, where they sell for N580.

Some motorists, however, stated that they arrived at the gas station as early as 6:30 a.m.

Nurudeen, an okada rider, reported that he had been at the NNPC fuel station in Onikolobo since 7:00 a.m., and that by 9:43 a.m., sales had ceased.

“See, I have been here since 7:00 am, I met a very long queue but as you can see this is 9:43 am and they said they are not selling again, they said the fuel is finished.”

Kanji, a pump attendant at the Oyinkansola filling station on Panseke Road, told our correspondent that they were selling for N700 per litre last week but are now selling for N730 per litre on Tuesday.
