Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State, has inaugurated the 5.2-kilometre Iworo–Ogbogbo–Igbeba Road in Ijebu North-East Local Government Area, promising to build two more roads in the council before the year ends.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the governor said the road offers vital access to farmlands and delivers on a campaign pledge made during his second-term re-election bid in 2023.
“I want to promise you that between now and the end of the year, I will construct two more roads in this local government. Let me assure you that the Central Mosque–Ilese to Benin–Sagamu Expressway, for which you have made a case, will be prioritised,” he said.
He explained that the road connects Ijebu North-East with Ijebu-Ode, making it easier for farmers to move their produce to markets, and described it as an extension of the Igbeba Road in Ijebu-Ode commissioned last year.
“We are being intentional about this. I will describe it as our own infrastructural emancipation of the entire Ijebuland,” he added.
The governor recalled that the formerly poor condition of roads in Ijebu-Ode had discouraged commercial transport operators from working in the area.
He expressed satisfaction that improved infrastructure has now attracted companies interested in providing taxi services across Ijebuland.
While commending Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating an enabling environment for states to undertake impactful projects, he assured residents that his administration would continue to respond to critics with visible and measurable development.
The member representing Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode and Ijebu North-East Federal Constituency, Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo, said the area had benefitted greatly from the administration’s infrastructure push and pledged ongoing support for the governor.
The Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, said the project demonstrates the government’s commitment to unprecedented development, noting that residents would remember the gesture.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, said the road is among several executed by the administration to stimulate economic activities.
He added that the once dilapidated road is now equipped with reinforced concrete drainage built for durability, noting that the reconstruction will greatly enhance connectivity across the area.
