Edo Government Cancels 10 Road Contracts

The Edo State Government has announced the termination of ten road contracts.

This was revealed by the Information and Communications Commissioner, Paul Ohonbamu, to journalists at the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Benin City.

According to Ohonbamu, the contracts were canceled for the sake of achieving uniformity of standards, eliminating overlapping, and rescope accordingly with the goal of completing the work in a timely fashion.

He further stated that the affected contracts would be examined to determine the amount of work that had been completed by the contractors so they can be compensated accordingly.

“This is to defray what they have done and any other payment accruable. The government is not terminating them with punishment. But the quantum of work will be analysed and what they deserve will be paid.
“This no doubt shows that the governor does not have any oppressive tendency but follows the rules to agree to pay those who are performing,” he said.

He said the government also agreed to pay ten contractors from the previous administration that are working in the state to the extent they have performed to ensure that there are no delays in the execution of projects.

Some of the other contracts ratified by the state government are the award of reconstruction of roads in Ovia North East, Esan North East and Oredo Local Government Areas.

“The State Executive Council also approved the renovation of some dilapidated public schools across the state in line with the state government’s drive in ensuring a better learning environment.

“In four months, the governor has been able to put in place a solid foundation to build upon sustainable infrastructure and human capital development of the people of Edo State,” he added.

Ohonbamu noted that the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led government met school infrastructures in deplorable situations and has therefore taken steps to provide a conducive environment for learning for students.
