The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 2,740 officers to ensure security and public safety during the Eid-el Fitri festivities.
State Commandant Remilekun Ekundayo disclosed that the deployment is aimed at maintaining peace, safeguarding lives, and protecting critical national infrastructure throughout the state.
Ekundayo mentioned that specialized units, including the Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Female Squad, Armed Squad, Anti-Vandal Squad, Mines and Steel Monitoring Squad, and Disaster and Rescue Management Unit, have been strategically positioned to guarantee peaceful celebrations.
Officers are assigned to secure key public locations such as places of worship, markets, recreational facilities, IBEDC installations, mining areas, and other densely populated and activity-rich zones.
Part of Ekundayo’s statement read:
“I have pronounced and ordered that all heads of area commands and divisions supervise their officers and men for professional and effective security management in collaboration and synergy with other security agencies in the State.
“The Command’s Special Monitoring Teams will also be moving around the metropolis alongside the ambulance for effective management and control of disasters in and around the State headed by the Command’s Head of Operations for effective security and protection of lives and property in the State before, during and after the festivities.
“More so, all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers across the State Command’s jurisdictions are to ensure adequate and full deployment of their officers and men especially in the areas of the Corps’ core mandates regarding the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure be it: Local, State and/or Federal against vandals and illegal perpetrators on such assets in the State.”
Ekundayo advised residents to celebrate responsibly and avoid actions that could disrupt law and order, adding that the NSCDC would act decisively against lawbreakers.
“I want to implore all law-abiding citizens across the State to provide us, at all times, with the necessary and required intelligence for the arrest of anyone found to be breaching public peace in the State in conjunction with relevant security agencies,” she stated.
