Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called on the Muslim community to hold fast to the principles of spiritual growth, kindness, and harmony that were central to their experience during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Governor’s message was released on Thursday in Lagos through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile. In the statement, Sanwo-Olu extended his congratulations to Muslims within the state and across the nation for completing their fast and reaching the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The Governor characterized Eid-el-Fitr as a significant time for gratitude and introspection, marking the conclusion of 30 days dedicated to prayer, fasting, and inner renewal.
He praised the Muslim faithful for their commitment and the personal sacrifices made during the month, urging them to keep up the momentum of compassion and support for those less fortunate in the community.
“I join millions of people around the world to wish our Muslim brothers and sisters in Lagos State and in Nigeria Eid Mubarak.
“We thank God for sparing our lives to witness the Holy Month and celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr,” he remarked.
Sanwo-Olu pointed out that Ramadan remains a cornerstone of the Islamic faith as one of its five pillars. He noted that “the period teaches abstinence from worldly pleasures, steadfastness in prayers and total submission to the will of Allah in accordance with the Quranic injunctions.”
He encouraged the residents of Lagos to maintain the peaceful and cooperative relationships they share with people of other religions, carrying forward the positive habits formed over the last month.
“I urge the Muslim faithful in Lagos State to continue to live in peace and harmony with believers of other faiths as we have always been doing in the state.
“They should continue on the good virtues such as helping the poor and the vulnerable in society, offering gratitude to Allah, and showing compassion and generosity to one another, as they did during Ramadan,” he stated.
Furthermore, the Governor invited all Nigerians to keep the country in their prayers, focusing on national stability and togetherness. He emphasized that every citizen has a role to play in the progress and development of both Lagos State and the country at large.
“Let us continue to remember our state, our nation, and the countless souls around the world who look to Allah for peace, mercy, and guidance.
“Let us be steadfast in prayers for continued peace and stability in Nigeria,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu concluded by asking for divine wisdom for the nation’s leaders and a peaceful path forward for Nigeria’s democracy.
“As we approach another important juncture in our democratic journey, let us humbly ask the Almighty Allah to grant peace across the land.
“Also, to guide those entrusted with leadership with wisdom and fairness, and to ensure that our collective actions reflect justice, unity, and the common good for all,” he added.
