The Nigeria Police Force has summoned the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for questioning in connection with an incident that occurred during the recent Sallah festivities.
According to an official letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Emir Sanusi has been requested to appear at the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Security agencies had earlier placed restrictions on Durbar activities during the Sallah celebration due to public safety concerns.
Despite the ban, Emir Sanusi reportedly led a Durbar procession and visited the Kano Government House, drawing large crowds. Notably, the procession was carried out using vehicles rather than the traditional horseback ride.
Before the police invitation was issued, a 20-year-old man named Usman Sagiru, from Sharifai Quarters, was arrested in connection with the killing and assault of vigilante members within the Emir’s entourage following Eid prayers on March 30, 2025.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the Kano State Police Command has also invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning regarding a possible violation of the police-imposed restrictions.
