The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has signaled the shutdown of all entry points and surrounding routes to the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja, clearing the way for the upcoming National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
These road closures are set to run from Friday, March 27, through Saturday, March 28, 2026, as Eagle Square takes center stage for the political gathering.
In light of this, civil servants stationed within Phases I, II, and III of the Federal Secretariat, along with staff at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have been told to work from home this Friday, March 27.
The instruction was detailed in a circular sent out on Thursday by the Head of Civil Service’s office to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as every Permanent Secretary and agency head stationed within the affected buildings.
The memo explained that the lockdown is a must because Eagle Square, where the APC is meeting, sits right next to the Federal Secretariat Complex.
“All Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments, Agencies and Offices located within the Federal Secretariat, Phases I, II & III are hereby informed of the closure of all access roads leading to and around the said Federal Secretariat Complex from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, March 28, 2026,” the circular stated.
The document further clarified that employees in these specific zones should handle their duties remotely on Friday to help manage the heavy movement restrictions in the area.
Signed by Dr. Abdul S. U. Garba, the Permanent Secretary for the Service Welfare Office, the notice called on all agency leaders to pass the word to their teams and make sure everyone sticks to the plan.
