The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 25 suspects linked to a violent attack on the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kwadon Division, CSP Adamu Alhaji-Idi, who was assaulted while carrying out his official duties in Kwadon town.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, May 20, was reportedly carried out by a group of suspected hoodlums known locally as “Kalare,” a gang notorious for terrorizing communities in Gombe State.
In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Buhari Abdullahi revealed that the DPO sustained serious injuries, including a deep wound to the forehead, and was immediately rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he is currently receiving treatment.
“The Gombe State Police Command strongly condemns the recent violent attack on a serving Divisional Police Officer and wishes to inform the general public of the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement read.
According to the command, a distress call was received around 9:00 a.m. from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations. In response, tactical officers from Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madaki, were swiftly deployed to the scene.
“Following coordinated tactical operations, 25 suspects, all residents of Kwadon town, were arrested in connection with the incident. They are currently in police custody undergoing a discreet investigation. Upon conclusion, they will be charged to court,” DSP Abdullahi added.
Gombe State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, alongside the Deputy Commissioner of Police, visited Kwadon to assess the situation. They met with officers and community leaders, assuring them of the command’s commitment to upholding law and order.
“The era of attacking security personnel with impunity is over,” DSP Abdullahi stated, reiterating the command’s zero-tolerance policy for violence against law enforcement officers.
The police urged residents of Kwadon and the larger Gombe community to remain law-abiding and to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. They emphasized that justice will be served and that peace and security will be restored.
