Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, continues to be held in custody as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has yet to respond to his request for bail, according to his media team.
In an update shared by his aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, it was noted that a full eight days have now passed since El-Rufai first turned himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 16, 2026.
After his initial period with the EFCC, the former governor was moved into the custody of the ICPC just two days into his detention.
Adekeye pointed out that although a formal application for bail was submitted immediately following his questioning, El-Rufai’s lawyers are still waiting for any word or feedback from the commission.
He emphasized that no official remand order has been produced to justify keeping him behind bars, particularly as the 48-hour constitutional window for holding a suspect without a formal charge has long since expired.
While navigating these detention hurdles, El-Rufai has also moved to legally contest a recent search of his Abuja home conducted by ICPC operatives.
He described the action as “a violation of his rights” and is asking the court to nullify the warrant used.
The situation remains fluid as the legal battle over his freedom, his rights, and the nature of the allegations continues to escalate in the courts.
