Imo PDP Launches Leadership Elections: Ward to State Levels

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has initiated the process of selecting new leaders across various levels of the party, following recent changes in state leadership that prompted widespread resignations among members.

The announcement came during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s state secretariat in Owerri. Chidi Dike, Chairman of the State Caretaker Committee, addressed the gathering and assured that the forthcoming congress would be conducted in a manner that ensures broad acceptance.

Dike emphasized that once completed, the exercise would strategically reposition the party, fortifying it to confront future challenges with renewed strength. He acknowledged the contributions of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s National Secretary and gubernatorial candidate in the November 2023 election, for his support towards the party’s welfare in the state.

The State Secretary of the party, Ugorji Onuegbu, unveiled the timetable for the congress, scheduling the ward congress for July 27, followed by the LGA and state congresses on August 10 and 31, respectively.

In conjunction with announcing the congress dates, Dike inaugurated the LGA Congress Harmonisation and Consensus Committees tasked with overseeing the LGA-level congress. He praised the efforts of the Chief Emma Ahuoku-led Disciplinary Committee, noting their role in eliminating past issues of indiscipline, office misuse, and anti-party activities.

The stakeholders’ meeting drew participation from party leaders representing all three geopolitical zones within the state.
