India has expressed readiness to support earthquake victims in Myanmar and Thailand following a powerful 7.7 magnitude quake that hit the region on Friday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed India’s preparedness to assist, writing on X, “India stands ready to offer all possible assistance,” adding, “our authorities are on standby.”
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7, though other sources have reported different intensities. The USGS identified the epicenter approximately 16 kilometers from Sagaing in northwestern Myanmar.
The tremors were felt across neighboring countries, including Bangladesh and India, notably impacting India’s northeastern state of Manipur, which shares a border with Myanmar.
In Manipur’s regional capital, Imphal, local media described scenes of panic, particularly in its western districts, although no major damage has yet been reported.
The quake also caused noticeable tremors in Kolkata, India, and in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
