Iran is now reportedly targeting United States military bases located in Qatar, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
The escalation follows recent strikes on Iran by the Israeli military and the United States.
Al Jazeera reported that Qatar, Kuwait and the UAE shut their airspace after explosions were heard in Kuwait.
Qatar’s Defence Ministry confirmed on Saturday that an Iranian missile was intercepted by the Patriot air defence system.
Explosions were also reported in Bahrain, which stated that the headquarters of the US Navy’s 5th Fleet had been targeted in a missile strike.
According to Reuters, a loud blast was heard in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
