The Israeli military has launched an attack on Iran, with several explosions reported across Tehran.
Al Jazeera reported that a US official said the strikes were carried out as a joint military operation involving Israel and the United States.
Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency said multiple missiles struck University Street and the Jomhouri area in central Tehran, sending thick smoke into the sky.
Semiofficial Tasnim News Agency also reported further explosions in the northern Seyyed Khandan district of the city.
Other Iranian outlets indicated that strikes were recorded in other parts of the country, including Ilam Province.
U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the operation was aimed at “eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.”
“Short time ago, US military began major combat operation in Iran.
“Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating threats from the Iranian regime,” Trump said.
Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz said the missile strikes were launched to “remove threats to the State of Israel.”
