Following a fierce bombing by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in collaboration with Nigerien troops, certain ISWAP operators have handed themselves over to security authorities in Borno State, and this is a great blow to the group.
The accuracy strikes were launched on March 17 in Chettimari, a border town within the Niger Republic close to Damasak, Borno State, according to intelligence reports released on Wednesday. Nigerien soldiers were ambushed by ISWAP terrorists, resulting in the death of at least four and the injuring of seven, which consequently led to the attack.
Supported by intelligence from surveillance, reconnaissance, and information, the Nigerian Air Force sent two Super Tucano fighter aircraft in a matter of hours over a distress call. The terrorists were severely battered in the coordinated air attack, which forced them to halt their activities.
“As a result of the airstrikes, several ISWAP fighters surrendered in Borno State with their weapons and horses,” a source confirmed.
The terrorists who laid down hostages were found to have been major culprits of several attacks in Niger Republic’s Damasak, Geidam, Mallam Fatori, and Diffa. In the war against terrorism raging in the Lake Chad region, their surrender is a big achievement.
