Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has vowed to turn down poor quality work on the ₦10.8 billion gully erosion control work in Kargo, Dutse Local Government Area, bemoaning the low quality of work done so far.
He made the revelation during an unscheduled inspection visit to the project site at the weekend.
Namadi accused the contractor, Retercha Company Limited, of using substandard materials and warned that his administration would not tolerate shoddy work.
According to the governor, his administration will not expect anything less than quality work that will stand the test of time.
Governor Namadi emphasized that the project must be carried out to the highest standard to benefit the affected communities sufficiently.
“My administration will not tolerate substandard work, especially on projects intended to improve the lives of citizens,” he warned.
He directed the contractor to urgently rectify the substandard work, adding that the state government would put in place effective supervision to ensure high-quality execution.
The governor also urged the contractors to swiftly move to action.
“The people of Jigawa deserve the best, and we will not accept anything less.”.
The project, funded by the World Bank through the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project, will tackle erosion issues in communities like Danmasara, Yalwawa, and Kargo.
