The Jigawa State Government reiterates its commitment to implementing the ban on night grazing by herders across the state as a means to reduce road accidents, the greater part of which are caused by camels.
This was indicated by Governor Umar Namadi while receiving Camel Rearers Association of West Africa officials on a courtesy call at the Government House in Dutse.
He also highlighted the desire of the state government to provide for the security and well-being of its citizens, expressing genuine concern over the rising number of fatalities and casualties brought about by camels veering onto principal roads.
The governor also owned up to unlawful activities of certain herders, particularly those who come from the neighboring countries.
Among measures to address the problem, he laid plans to enlist Fulani herders in the state so they can be identified with ease in case of any need.
During his address, the West Africa Rearers Association of Nigeria Secretary-General Abubakar Mustapha Andaza clarified that the visit was to formally present the association and seek the advice of the state government on the most appropriate means of conducting business in Jigawa.
